I am so honored and humbled to receive the Legislator of the Year award from the Colorado Nonprofit Association! This is one of the most meaningful awards a legislator can receive. I would like to thank the members of the Colorado Federation of Animal Welfare Agencies for the nomination.
On April 19, 2015 the United Veterans Committee of Colorado presented me with the Distinguished Legislator Award. Having served in the United States Marine Corps, this award is meaningful to me.
HB 14-1373 was the bill I championed which made sure surviving spouses of a disabled veteran, who qualified for a property tax exemption, may also claim the exemption following the death of the veteran. It is the least we can do for our veterans and spouses of veterans.
On September 19, 2015 the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association honored me with the President’s Award for my work on HB 15-1187 Veterinary Peer Health bill. This bill allows veterinarians the same privileges that medical doctors, dentists and pharmacists currently have. This bill gives veterinarians the opportunity to have a mental and physical evaluation if a formal complaint is made against them to the State Board of Veterinary Medicine before their license is suspended.
On August 22, 2015 the Senior Lobby awarded me with an award at their annual meeting for “extraordinary support for senior issues”. This was in appreciation for running HB 15-1100 that would have transferred money promised to senior programs in Colorado General Fund to the Older Coloradoan’s Cash fund to ensure that the money would be used for senior programs and not be used for other budgetary needs.
The Humane Society of the United States honored me with the prestigious Humane State Legislator Award. They presented this award during the Colorado Legislative Animal Welfare (CLAW) Caucus. Thank you so much for this honor.
